“Got my first gold teeth at the swap meet,
Felt the temperature change when we dropped ‘HEAT’”
“Gold Teeth” features as the third track of BROCKHAMPTON’s 2022 release The Family. This serves as Kevin Abstract’s solo track on the album, featuring a beat many have said feels reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us”.
The lyrics follow Kevin as he speaks back on the group’s earlier days, back when people were first discovering BROCKHAMPTON and the shifts that came with their fast-growing fame.
The track progresses in a similar pattern to the band’s popularity, Kevin Abstract’s ego showing more and more until the end when he finally explodes and self-acknowledged the group’s popularity declining. Gold teeth here represent his first grasp of fame, a symbolic figure of the calm before the storm.
