Heard You Were Looking For Gold Teeth?: Blood Orange - Gold Teeth

“Yeah n*gga, yeah n*gga, I got gold teeth, n*gga (kill 'em)

I'm from the street, n*gga, You got some beef, n*gga?

Yeah n*gga, yeah n*gga We keep the dope cookin' (kill 'em)

And where I'm from, grown men don't take no ass whoopin"

“Gold Teeth” features as the eighth track off of Blood Orange’s 2019 album Angel’s Pulse. The track features artists Project Pat, Gangsta Boo and Tinashe for a song that exudes the ultimate level of life from opposite perspectives.

Gold teeth in this track are simply an accessory for everyday people. Gangsta Boo’s verse feels like an authentic painting of everyday conversations between Black Americans. There’s a distinct divine feminine energy being portrayed in this verse, and it feels totally Black in the best way. The black luxury side of having gold teeth is explored from the way they’re “flying private not commercial”, and how they’re constantly getting their money up in an almost “Word hard, Play hard” mentality.

To contrast this Project Pat’s verse delves into a deeper masculine energy, portraying the person that “doesn’t take no ass whooping”. Each line represents the stereotypical strong Black male who protects his own, stays in his lane and only thinks about the materialization of women.

Gold teeth in this track represents two sides of a coin, forever parallel to themselves in a way that gold teeth hold its original Black, urban culture.
