BAMILEK is Having a Cookout !

Join BAMILEK on Saturday May 20th in collaboration with No Permission Needed Zine and Hip Hop Scotland for a day of live music, fashion, and a large cookout catered to you!

The event paying homage to hip hop culture will be held in Kinning Park Complex from 11am to 6pm, and will consist of a range of events engaging guests throughout the day. From a clothes drive, music from an on-site DJ, and auntie-approved African and Caribbean food, a day filled with culture is ensured.

DJ Supermann will be providing mixes of all the old-school hip hop we love to the current Black British music. Hip Hop Scotland is a platform which showcases the ever growing hip hop scene across the country, putting people on to artists who are telling their own stories fresh out of Scotland. As BAMILEK said, get your dancing shows on and jump into their cyphers on the day!

At the end of the night prepare to unwind and watch some amazing performances and put your name down to participate in the open mic event. The open mic night will be in collaboration with No Permission Needed Zine with the winner of the evening featuring in the next print issue of the zine.

Everyone coming along to the event is encouraged to bring along any preloved clothes to engage in a large clothes drive, to donate, swap and upcycle their items. It’s detailed:

**DONATE** The clothes you donate will then be donated to different organisations in Cameroon.

**SWAP** If you see someone donating something you genuinely like then you can swap it for something of similar value.

**UPCYCLE** There will be various stations where you will be able to cut, sew or paint whatever you want on your clothes.

BAMILEK is actively encouraging everyone to engage an sustainable living as many day-to-day items such as clothes go to each year. This cookout event costs £6 online and on the day, with funds raised going towards BAMILEK’s LIMBE project. The LIMBE project’s main aim is to raise £3000 by July to organise a group beach clean-up on Limbe Beach located in Cameroon. The black sand beach has been affected by the garbage disposal and waste and has caused contamination making Limbe beach’s water quality undrinkable, and unfit for swimming in. In order to protect the world’s oceans, cleanup projects are essential to maintaining environmental healthiness.

Tickets and volunteer roles are available here.
